The Hoey Suite of the stunning Sheraton Hotel, Athlone, was transformed for the night with a giant rainbow backdrop setting the scene behind the musical maestro for the evening,
DJ Ken. He played hits from every decade and really got the crowd moving, and he wasn’t afraid to show off more than his DJing skills by wearing a kilt for the special occasion!
One of the highlights of the night was an amazing performance by Gloria - Dublin’s lesbian & gay choir. They kicked off their set with their brilliant rendition of ‘Make Your Own Kind Of Music’ – an appropriate choice at any gay event, and it went down a treat with the crowd. After showing off their talents with a few more songs they handed the reins back to DJ Ken, but stayed and added to the party by selling their merchandise and mixing with the crowd. A huge thank you to all of the members of Gloria for sharing their own kind of musical magic and bringing something unique and special to the night.
Another highlight was provided by Outwest as they held their Mr. Outwest contest. Contestants were grilled with question and answer rounds, and the audience were treated with one of the most important parts of a competition like this – a topless round!!! Well done to all the contestants who took part, but a huge congratulations to Henry from Sligo who was crowed the winner and went on to represent Outwest in the Mr. Gay Ireland contest. The disco overall was a great success and gave LGBT people from across the midlands and west a much needed opportunity to come together and celebrate our diversity and we look forward to this annual event getting bigger and better in the future.
A huge thank you to all the members of all the groups involved – Gay Westmeath, Outwest and Gay Clare, who organised the event and worked hard on the night to make sure it was enjoyable for everyone. Thank you to all the management and staff of the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone, who were very friendly, helpful and provided great service, along with a fabulous venue. And last, but not least, a massive thank you to all who attended on the night. Without you, events like this simply couldn’t happen.
